S-Pole(Smart Seoul Pole)

Introduction

The Smart Seoul Pole (S-Pole) is a citizen-friendly facility established by the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) to enhance its global city competitiveness and supporting a safe and pleasant life of citizens by combining the urban infrastructure (traffic light pole, streetlight pole, CCTV pole, security light pole) installed throughout Seoul with various smart city ICT (e.g. public Wi-Fi, IoT, intelligent CCTV, electric charging, autonomous driving).

Background
  • As cities across the world evolve into smart cities, streetlights, traffic lights, and security lights are increasingly starting to provide citizen-oriented smart services, such as CCTV, public WiFi, IoT, and electric charging.
  • There is a requirement to transition into smart poles which not only carries out their original role as a Installation of various road facilities streetlight and traffic light, but also acts as smart city infrastructure which improves citizens' safety, welfare, environment, and convenience.

Installation of various road facilitiesInstallation of various road facilities

    1. Installation of various road facilities
      • 3G/4G, Public WiFi, System cabinet, Metering device, CCTV - No facility standard (excessive demand, safety risk)
      • traffic light pole, streetlight pole, CCTV pole - Individually-installed facilities (undermining urban aesthetics and causing pedestrian inconvenience)
    2. Smart integration
    3. After installation : Effects of smart integration of poles (example)
